Year 5 Home Learning 3.7.25
Write a short narrative (story) set in Roman Britain. Your story should bring to life what it was like during the Roman occupation of Britain nearly 2,000 years ago.
Will you be a Roman soldier building Hadrian’s Wall? A British Celt watching the Roman army arrive? A child living in a Roman villa, or a trader in a busy Roman town?
Write a story that:
✅ Has a clear beginning, middle and end
✅ Includes a setting with details about Roman Britain
✅ Features a main character and a problem to solve
✅ Uses exciting vocabulary and varied sentence types
You could choose one of these story starters to help you begin:
The mist hung low over the hills as we marched north, towards the edge of the empire…
I had never seen anything like the Roman road that now cut through our village.
As I hid behind the stone wall of the villa, I could hear the clatter of hooves…
The Roman commander looked at me and said, “You’re going to Londinium.”
