This week, our nursery has been diving into the enchanting world of mermaids! These mythical sea creatures have sparked the imagination of our little ones, leading to a week filled with creativity, exploration, and fun. Here's a glimpse into our mermaid-themed activities:

Crafting Treasure Maps: Our adventure began with the creation of treasure maps. The children had a fantastic time drawing and decorating their maps. These maps were designed to help the mermaids find and steal the pirate treasure hidden on the island. The children’s imaginations ran wild as they plotted routes filled with mysterious caves, towering palm trees, and treacherous waters.

Gyotaku: Japanese Fish Printing: One of the highlights of our mermaid week was trying out Gyotaku, the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. The children got to hold and observe real fish. The children then used the fish to create beautiful prints on paper, which allowed them to see and appreciate the intricate details of the fish’s body.

Discussing Mermaid Tails: We had a lively discussion about how a mermaid's tail might feel. The children shared their thoughts, describing the tails as smooth, slippery, and shimmering. We explored different textures and materials to bring these ideas to life, using sequins, satin, and shiny fabrics to simulate the feel of a mermaid’s tail.
