In Year 1 we have been learning the story 'The Little Red Hen'

On Wednesday we made breadsticks, just like the hen makes bread in the story!

The children really enjoyed the experience of making and then baking the breadsticks from scratch.

ALL of the children ate their breadstick and some enjoyed it with jam on top!

If you would like to make breadsticks at home, here is the recipe and method - it's super easy!

Breadsticks (makes 12)

- 450g strong bread flour

- 1 x 7g sachet of fast-action dried yeast

- 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt

- 250-275ml of warm water

- Combine your ingredients to make a dough

- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface

- Divide into 12 equal sized balls

- Roll out each ball into a breadstick shape

- Cover with cling film and leave somewhere warm for half an hour

- Bake for 18-20 minutes in a fan oven set to 200C

This weekend your child has brought home their Little Red Hen story map.

Please ask them to use it to tell you the story! :)
