Nursery Science Blog: Exploring Freezing, Melting, and Absorbency
This week, our budding scientists had so much fun experimenting with freezing and melting and discovering what it means to be absorbent!
We began by exploring ice—how we make it, where in the world we can find it, and what it’s made of. The children were fascinated to learn about temperature and how it affects freezing and melting. We even had some great discussions about what happens when ice changes back into water.
In another experiment, we introduced the concept of absorbency. We explored what the word means by testing different items to see how well they could clean up spillages. The children worked together to test a sponge, tin can, plastic cup, and tea towel. They were very quick to share their own creative ideas for other items we could test too!
It was wonderful to see how confidently the children made predictions about whether an item would be absorbent or not. Their enthusiasm and curiosity led to some fantastic conversations and observations!
Science is always an exciting adventure in our nursery, and we love watching the children grow as little investigators!
