Exploring "Peace at Last", A Perfect Bedtime Adventure
Peace at Last is a delightful and relatable story about Mr. Bear, who just can’t seem to find a quiet place to sleep. As he tries different spots around the house, he encounters various noises that keep him awake—until, at last, peace is found.
Children were encouraged to retell the story using onomatopoeia (words that mimic sounds) like “tick-tock,” “snore-snore,” and “drip-drip.” These playful sounds engaged children, while also expanding their vocabulary and phonemic awareness. We created a story sack with soft toys representing the characters (Mr. Bear, Mrs. Bear, Baby Bear) and objects from the story (clock, car, kettle). The children used these props to retell the story, helping develop their confidence in storytelling.
The children have had a great time getting to know one another and are starting to form friendships. This week, they especially enjoyed playing "car wash" with the bikes, sponges, and buckets!
