This week in Turtle class, we have been germ busters! We have been learning about the importance of hand washing to celebrate Global Hand Washing Day and how easily germs can be spread from person to person.

We done 2 experiments, one with pepper and one with glitter. The first experiment was that we sprinkled pepper into water to represent the germs. The children put their finger into the water and all the germs stuck to their fingers! They then put their fingers in hand soap and when their fingers went back in the water, the "germs" moved away and the fingers came out clean! This showed how washing hands with soap keeps the germs away.

The second experiment was showing how germs spread from person to person. We applied glue to a child's hand and put it into glitter, the children then went round the circle shaking hands and could see how the glitter "germs" spread. We then went and washed our hands singing our hand washing song.

(To the tune of row, row, row your boat) Wash, wash, wash your hands, wash them nice and clean. Wash them with soap and water until their nice and clean, x2 (20 seconds)

The children have also been observing our sweet potato experiment and have been noticing small changes to the bottom of the potato but still no roots.
