Book of the week

This weeks book was brown bear, brown bear what do you see? The children have been learning the story and have been joining in with repeated lines in the story and anticipating what comes next. Turtle class have really enjoyed doing the animal noises. Our story trunk has props to encourage the children to re tell the story during our choosing time. In our investigation area, there have been a range of loose parts to encourage the children to make bear faces. The children have been very creative in this area.

In the sand area, the bears needed rescuing. Turtle class practised their tweezers skills to collect the bears and match them to the correct coloured bowls.

Rhyme of the week

We continued with the rhyme head, shoulders, knees and toes.

The children are now experts at this rhyme. They even done all the actions without the adults modelling! We are still learning positional language such as, in front of, behind, on top and underneath. Try using these words at home in your day to day routines.

To tie in with this rhyme and our germ theme this week, the children have been washing dolls and trolls with adults modelling language. "I'm going to clean the dolls shoulders" Turtle class also had great fun with our pumpkin painting station outside. They got to paint a range of pumpkins and when finished, they carried their pumpkins over to the wash station where they had spray bottles and toothbrushes to clean the pumpkins. All of this was building muscles in their shoulders and hands as well as learning about being clean.

Turtle class learnt that inside our body is a skeleton and we made pictures using straws and Q-tips.

We have been doing lots of counting this week and the children are getting more confident count up to 10 and beyond. We use big movements when reciting, punch up into the air, arm circles and stamping feet. This keeps the children engaged and builds their gross motor skills.

Black History Month

As part of the theme "Honouring Our Communities" Turtle Class have been looking at local artist Thulani Shuku and have produced individual portraits inspired by his art work. They water washed their card first and then used plastic bottles to make the flower prints. Finally they stuck their self portrait on top. They look amazing!!!!! well done Turtles.

In music this week Turtle class got to listen to the British artist Stormzy. We used Scarfs to move around the classroom to the rhythm.
