Shell Class celebrate Black History Month
This week in Reception, we have been celebrating Black History Month by learning about some inspiring figures from art and sport. We explored the colourful artwork of Alma Thomas and Barbara Walker, looking closely at how they use shape, colour, and pattern to express themselves. The children enjoyed creating their own artwork by cutting, sticking, and drawing portraits of each other!
We also learned about Lewis Hamilton, the famous Formula 1 driver. Inspired by his racing success, the children had great fun outdoors building their own racing cars using crates and wheeled trolleys. There was lots of teamwork, imagination, and fast driving around the playground racetrack!
In phonics, we have been learning about syllables – the beats in words. We’ve been clapping out names and objects to help us hear how many syllables they have. Can you have a go at home? Try clapping the names of your family members and see how many beats you can hear! 👏
It’s been a creative, energetic, and inspiring week of learning!
