This week we have been enjoying the story Owl Babies. The children loved using our small world resources to retell the story and act out what happens to Sarah, Percy and Bill. Retelling stories in play helps to build confidence, develop language and strengthen memory skills.

At home, please continue to practise sharing books together. Encourage your child to:

  • Hold the book the correct way up
  • Turn one page at a time
  • Talk about the pictures and what might be happening

These simple steps help children become confident early readers.

We have also been busy developing our motor skills, practising how to create different patterns with pencils, paint and other resources. These early writing skills are an important step towards letter formation.

In maths, we have been learning about subitising – recognising small quantities without counting. The children have been practising recognising 1, 2 and 3 instantly, which is a key foundation for number understanding.

Looking ahead, next week we will be learning all about our emotions and how to regulate them. We will explore how different feelings might look and feel, and learn strategies to help us calm down and feel ready for learning.
