Mother Earth
This week we have started our new topic Mother Earth. We read the story Pip and Egg and discovered that living things start from a seed or an egg. The children were fascinated by how something so small can grow into something much bigger.
We have been exploring a range of seeds and planted some fruits, vegetables and flowers. The children learned what seeds need in order to grow, including water, sunlight and care. Ask your child if they can remember what helps a seed to grow.
In phonics we have been revisiting the sounds j, w and v. The children have been working hard to apply their phonic knowledge when reading and writing. We have also been focusing on how to work as a whole class at the tables and use our new phonic books with increasing independence.
In maths we have been using number fans to match amounts to the correct numeral. We have also been practising counting in different ways, including jumps, claps and skips, which the children have really enjoyed.
On Wednesday we welcomed some visitors from our friends at Watergate School. The children learned about neurodiversity and began to understand that everyone is different in how they look, play and learn. We were very proud of how respectful and thoughtful the children were during these discussions.
Next week we are expecting a very exciting special delivery. We cannot wait to see what arrives. 🐛
