Year 5 children used a hands-on timeline activity to explore just how long ago the Ancient Greeks lived. Using toilet rolls to represent the passage of time, children created chronological timelines showing key events leading back to the Ancient Greek period.

Seeing the Ancient Greeks placed so far along the timeline helped pupils grasp the huge scale of history and how distant this civilisation is from modern life. The activity also developed pupils’ use of time vocabulary such as before, after, BC/ BCE and AD/ CE.
