Bringing George to Life: Exploring The Dragon Machine
This week in English, Year 2 has been immersing itself in the wonderful story The Dragon Machine. We have been focusing closely on the main character, George, and thinking carefully about how he feels at different points in the story.
To help us understand George’s emotions more deeply, we took part in a fun and engaging drama activity. The children worked in groups of three, taking on the roles of George and his parents. The “parents” asked George thoughtful questions about his feelings and actions, while George shared his thoughts and explained how he was feeling throughout the story.
The children were given time to prepare their ideas, thinking carefully about George’s emotions and how to express them. After 10 minutes of rehearsal time, each group performed their role-play in front of the class.
We were so impressed with the confidence, expression, and understanding shown in every performance. The children used their knowledge of the story to answer questions in roles, which really brought the characters to life. It was wonderful to see them exploring emotions, such as excitement, worry, frustration, and happiness, in such a thoughtful way.
Well done, Year 2, for your brilliant acting and fantastic understanding of George’s character. What a great way to deepen our comprehension skills while having lots of fun!
