5G visit to UCL observatory
Last week, Year 5 had an exciting trip to UCL Observatory. We travelled there to learn more about space, telescopes and what it’s like to be an astronomer.
One of the first things we learnt about was the different types of telescopes used by astronomers. We saw telescopes that are used to look at the Moon, planets and even distant stars. Some telescopes are very old, and others use modern technology to take clear images of space. We learnt that telescopes don’t just make things look bigger – they also help collect light so we can see objects that are very far away.
We also learnt about what it takes to be an astronomer. Astronomers don’t just look through telescopes all night! They study data, use computers and work together to learn more about the universe. We found out that astronomers ask lots of questions and are very patient, because space discoveries can take a long time
